How to Join - New Members

Our u3a membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March the following year.

If you join on between 1st January and 31st March, your membership will run until 1st April the following year.

The cost of joining is currently £10 per membership year.

We offer only individual membership and, sorry but no discounts if you are a member of another u3a. Whilst we offer 'joint' membership for two people sharing the same address, the fee is the same per member.

In addition to the membership fee you should expect to have to pay costs incurred by individual groups such as room hire or refreshments, typically a few pounds per meeting; these are kept to a minimum and shared between all group members equally. Your details will be shared with Group Leaders for the purposes of running our groups.

Your membership fee covers central administrative costs along with the costs of our monthly Speaker meeting. It also entitles you to receive the u3a Trust's Third Age Matters magasine (TAM) which is currently issued 5 times a year.

We strongly recommend that you visit the "Online Joining" instructions created by the national u3a (opens in a new browser tab) before starting the new-member joining process.

You can join by one of the following methods:

  • Online - see instructions below.
  • In person by downloading a membership form, and taking the completed form to one of our monthly meetings along with your fee (cash, cheque and card payments all accepted) where the membership secretary will be able to sort out for you.
  • By post. Download a membership form and post along with your cheque covering the fee to the address given on the form - DO NOT SEND CASH. You must also enclose a self addressed stamped envelope for your membership card to be sent back. (Alternatively you can arrange to collect your card at one of the monthly meetings.)
